HOW TO PRONOUNCE "SOAP" AND "SOUP"?
Because these two words are so similar, it can be challenging to differentiate the words and pronounce them correctly. The words are same except the vowel in the middle. Knowing how to use that vowel is the key to pronounce these words correctly.
First, let's start with "SOUP". First of all, we start with an "s" as in "Sam" and we continue with "oo" (uː), and in order not to confuse it, it rhymes with "coop, loop, snoop" and then we end it with a "p" as in Paul. Also as it means "a hot liquid food", you can guess it from the sound we make when we drink it. "suup" :)
When it comes to "SOAP", it is almost exactly the same. We start with an "s" and end with a "p". The only difference is in the vowel. It is "oʊ" as in "cope, dope, hope".
Here is a video we made for you to get the difference better:
How to differentiate them without actively thinking? Practice! Say these words tens of times and you'll get natural at it! Good luck.
